On Saturday I was at Forthbank in Stirling to attend the Mountaineering Council of Scotland’s annual general meeting.
In my experience, not all members of a club or group are interested in this side of things, but for an organisation of it’s size, it was a fairly small gathering, perhaps suggesting that overall people are happy with MCofS’s direction and policies.
For those who did attend there were some really interesting presentations beforehand, including one by Neil Reid and Heather Morning looking at the media reaction to the deaths which occurred on Scotland’s mountains last winter. Heathers section of the lecture turned from amusement to sobering in a very short instant, and gave a graphic demonstration of what can happen to even the best equipped on the hills.
It was also good to meet up with some of the representatives of other clubs from across Scotland, to pass on to them some of my clubs good ideas, and to pinch some of theirs…
