Having watched for the already announced Greengairs Windfarm application for a few weeks with no joy I see they slipped it in to the local paper last week when I was away on holiday. I’m hoping to get a more detailed look at the plans over the next few days as it runs to 108 documents all in, however my initial view is that it’s monstrous, completely changing the skyline for miles around. Bear in mind when you view any of the ‘photomontages’ showing the windfarm in situ that there will possibly be another windfarm next to it (the red turbines on the line drawings) which they haven’t photoshopped in (I wonder why).
A particular concern of mine is the effect on the surrounding area of removing thousands of tonnes of water (and carbon) retaining peat. The reduction in capacity for water retention could have serious effects on the surrounding area, most noticeably Upperton which I believe was badly flooded a few weeks back.
The application can be viewed online at https://eplanning.northlan.gov.uk/Online/, the application number is 12/00602/FUL. There were 28 days to lodge an objection from the date of publication (4th July 2012).
